Kyle graduated from Grand Valley State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Work and went on to Southern New Hampshire University, where he earned a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Kyle is working as a Resident in Counseling under the supervision of Shenay Wharton, LPC while providing care to clients.
Kyle specializes in trauma-focused counseling and has worked with families, adults, and children ages 6 to 65 in individual and group counseling settings. Kyle has supported persons struggling with grief, loss, PTSD, anxiety, depression, behavioral problems, child abuse, night terrors, adoption, parenting, divorce, domestic abuse, gaslighting, sexual abuse, Veteran trauma, crisis intervention and management, insomnia, and substance use.
Kyle uses an adaptable Person-Centered Cognitive Behavioral approach grounded in compassion. He has trained in various therapeutic specialties to support his clients with methods most appropriate for their unique situations, needs, and goals. Kyle is experienced in providing Internal Family Systems, Trauma-Focused CBT, Spiritual Therapy, Acceptance Commitment Therapy, Eye Movement Integration, and the ASAM levels of care.
Kyle is developing a foundation in multicultural counseling, including multicultural knowledge, awareness, and sensitivity among Hispanic ethnicities in the counseling setting, supported by his past volunteer work in Guatemala. He holds ILR Level 2 Spanish-speaking proficiency but is not fluent.
Kyle is excited to promote neurological, interpersonal, intercultural, communal, and spiritual plasticity and support amongst traumatized individuals and communities in the Hampton Roads area. Kyle is a member of The American Counseling Association, the American Society of Addiction Medicine, The National Society of Leadership and Success, and The Association for Spiritual, Ethical, and Religious Values in Counseling.
